CitiesPereyaslav-Khmelnitski![]() Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskiy is the small town on the left bank of Dnipro. It is famous for its Museum of the Histritu of Ukrainian Architecture. Famous classic of Jewish literature Sholom Aleikhem was born in Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskiy. Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskiy (before 1943 was Pereyaslav; renamed in honor of B. Khmelnitskyi) town in the center of Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskiy regiond of Kyiv oblast. It is situated on Trubezh river (the tributary of Dnipro) in 28 km from Pereyaslavskaya railway station (Kyiv – Poltava way). Population is 24,6 thousand people (1974). There are the ensembles of monasteries: Mikhailovsky (1646-1666) and Voznesenskyi (1695 – 1700; collegium – 18 century). In 1950, the center of Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskiy was reconstructed (project – 1953-54, architects O.M. Gryshchenko, I.L. Dabagian and others), in 1974 the plan of reconstruction and further development with the boundaries of historic and architecture zones defining was adopted (architects V.G. Mayevskaya, I.S. Sinitskyi and others). There is a monument in honor of 300 years of Ukraine Reunion with Russia (bronze, granite, 1954, sculptors V.P. Vinaikin and others, architect V.G. Gnezdilov). ![]() The first in Ukraine Museum of the Folk Architecture is very popular among tourists and satiated in Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskiy. There are village houses of different epochs, instruments, utensils, things from smithy, collection of mills of XVIII century and other unique exhibits. There is also a Museum of Cosmonautics on the territory of Museum. The following museum are of great interest: writer Sholom Aleikhem, poet Taras Shevchenko, philosopher Grigoriy Skovoroda. Town played a great role in the life of Russians and Ukrainians which is reflected ib the “Monument in Honor of Reunion of Ukraine with Russia”, diorama “Assault of Dnipro near Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskiy”, “Pereyaslav Rada” pinting of M. Deregus and in many others. Bell tower and Cathedral of former Voznesenskyi Monastery are the monuments of XVII-XVIII centuries architecture. |
